Diaper changes are frequent in the first few months! I always make sure to have a huge stock of them when going anywhere!
2. Wipes
With frequent changes and God knows what others uses you might need them for I pack anywhere from a half pack to a full pack of wipes. Wipe dispensers are nice to have for small trips with your baby. They can be found pretty much everywhere!
3. Changing Pad
I’m one of those moms who are always outside and changing my son in the dirt, on a picnic table, or in the trunk of my car isn’t my first choice. Thankfully my diaper bag came with a changing pad. Most bags do come with one but if you don’t have one, I suggest investing one.
4. Spare Outfits
If your baby is anything like my son, you realize that babies are messy and love to poop on their cute outfits! This happens to me almost every time we go somewhere! Its not uncommon for newborns to spit up, poop, or pee (you know the works) through a few outfits. This includes socks! My son always finds a way to dip his feet into a poopy diaper.
5. Burp Rags
Of course, with all the spit up you can never go wrong with bringing a few burp rags.
6. Blankets
If you’re like me, most of the time your baby has a blanket on them in the car seat. Again, you never know what kind of mess your baby will be getting into. I always pack one heavy blanket along with a muslin blanket (I never check the weather).
7. Empty bottle
Even though my son is breast fed he also takes a bottle time to time. Having an extra bottle has saved me on a few occasions when I forgot to bring my breast pump or milk storage bags. I never thought I would have to hand express into a bottle until the day I forgot my pump!
8. Bottle of Water
This is important for both formula babies and breast-fed babies. I use my water to rinse out bottles when we are going on long trips. For formula babies it comes in handy for making bottles.
9. Spare Clothing for Mom
After multiple occasions of leaking through shirts and being used as a human toilet, packing an extra outfit for myself began to be part of my checklist.
10.Milk
Even if you breast feed, I would always pack a few 3oz baggies of breastmilk. You never know when your boobs aren’t going to cooperate, or your baby goes on a cluster feeding frenzy.
